Shade and water in small courtyards

Working on a 20’ x 20’ downtown courtyard where utilities block deep rooting, I’m testing a slender steel trellis with reversible PV-fabric panels that cast dappled shade and route rainfall to a 500-gallon cistern. Has anyone measured wind comfort or night-sky impacts from this setup versus a tight grove of multi-stem Amelanchier or Carpinus? Trying to balance summer thermal comfort, winter sun penetration, and low embodied carbon while keeping the ceiling plane visually porous.

But , in a 20’ x 20’ box with utilities blocking roots, our slender trellis only felt decent after swapping to 40–50% porous PV fabric and logging wind at 1.2 m with a cheap anemometer for a week. > night-sky impacts from this setup versus a tight grove of multi-stem Amelanchier or Carpinus? Trying to balance summer Agree — the glossy PV weave kicked stray uplight; a matte underside and 2200K full-cutoff path lights kept the sky nearly as dark as baseline, while Amelanchier read darkest but ran hotter at midday; want the fabric spec and a quick wind log template?
